Qur’an and Tafsir Studies
Cambridge Islamic College offers a comprehensive course on the Tafsir of the Qur’an, available through our online learning platform, DeepDeen. This course is taught by Shaykh Dr. Mohammad Akram Nadwi and provides analytical, detailed, and inspiring interpretations of selected Surahs of the Qur’an.
The Tafsir series covers several chapters, including:
- Surah Yasin
- Surah Nur
- Surah Yusuf
- Surah Kahf
- Surah Rahman
- Surah Baqarah
- Surah Al-Mulk
- Surah Al-Mursalat
- Surah Al-Naba
- Surah Al-Nas
Surah Yasin
Surah Yasin is the 36th chapter in the Holy Qur’an, containing 83 verses. It is a Makki Surah and appears in Juz’ 22–23. The Tafsir of Surah Yasin offered by Cambridge Islamic College consists of four episodes, forming a concise one-day course. Students are especially encouraged to study this Surah during the blessed month of Ramadan.
Surah Yusuf
The Tafsir of Surah Yusuf is delivered in two seasons. The Surah explores themes of moral strength, patience, perseverance, and divine planning. Surah Yusuf, the 12th chapter of the Qur’an, consists of 111 verses and was revealed in Makkah. It spans across Juz’ 12–13.
Surah Kahf
The Tafsir lectures on Surah Kahf are presented across four comprehensive seasons. The Surah focuses on the trials of faith, the command to emigrate, and steadfastness amidst adversity. Surah Kahf, the 18th chapter of the Qur’an, contains 110 verses. It is a Makki Surah spanning Juz’ 15–16.
Surah Rahman
The Tafsir of Surah Rahman is covered in two seasons. The lectures highlight the divine attributes of mercy, grace, blessings, and gratitude. Surah Rahman is a Madani Surah and the 55th chapter of the Qur’an, comprising 78 verses. The Tafsir offers a reflection on Allah’s countless favors and the human responsibility to acknowledge them.
Surah Baqarah
The Tafsir of Surah Baqarah includes 24 seasons of recorded lectures. As the longest Surah in the Qur’an, Surah Baqarah contains 286 verses. It is a Madani Surah and the second chapter of the Qur’an. Major themes include guidance, faith, obedience, divine promise, trials, and moral responsibility.
Surah Nur
The Tafsir study of Surah Nur consists of six seasons. It is a Madani Surah with 64 verses and is the 24th chapter of the Qur’an, located in Juz’ 17–18. The central themes include modesty, community responsibility, justice, moral discipline, and the punishment for false accusations against women.
Tafsir of Juz ‘Amma
The Tafsir of Juz ‘Amma is delivered across 13 seasons. It provides a comprehensive study of the last section of the Qur’an — from Surah Al-Naba (78) to Surah Al-Nas (114). These 37 short Makki Surahs are rich in rhythm, structure, and moral messages. Traditionally, beginners start learning the Qur’an from this section due to its accessible and lyrical composition.
Tafsir of Juz Tabarak
The Tafsir of Juz Tabarak is presented in 11 detailed seasons, analyzing all Surahs from Juz’ 29 — from Surah Al-Mulk (67) to Surah Al-Naba (78). This Juz’ primarily includes Makki Surahs characterized by brevity and thematic depth, emphasizing faith, accountability, and the hereafter.
Enrollment & Learning Model
To enroll in Tafsir Studies, students may subscribe to DeepDeen through either a yearly or monthly plan. Please note that Cambridge Islamic College does not currently offer a formal Diploma in Tafsir Studies, meaning there are no examinations or certifications at this time.
The Tafsir program on DeepDeen follows a self-paced learning model, designed for intellectual enrichment and reflective study without formal assessments. This non-assessed approach encourages learners to focus on understanding, reflection, and personal growth, rather than accreditation.
